Enea Bastianini finished on top of the timesheets ahead of Romano Fenati and Brad Binder after a red flag during the session.
Gresini Racing Team Moto3’s Bastianini made use of the new surface at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli to go under Juanfran Guevara’s 2014 Circuit Record (1’43.196) in just the first practice session. The Italian and set a 1’43.133 in a re-started session as over second separated the top 7 riders.
Sky Racing Team VR46’s Romano Fenati finished just 0.038s behind his compatriot in second with Brad Binder on the Red Bull KTM Ajo in third (+0.198s) as riders were greeted by ideal conditions at the circuit (Track temp. 24˚C).
Leopard Racing’s Efren Vazquez (+0.558s) was fourth, with Binder’s teammate Miguel Oliveira (+0.582s) in fifth. Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Fabio Quartararo finished sixth fastest (+0.919s) ahead of championship leader Danny Kent (Leopard Racing) who was 1.019s off the pace of Bastianini.
Niccolo Antonelli (Ongetta-Rivacold), Andrea Migno (Sky Racing Team VR46) and Isaac Viñales (RBA Racing Team) completed the top ten.
The session was red flagged after just seven minutes when Lorenzo Dalla Porta (Husqvarna Factory Laglisse) and Jorge Navarro (Estrella Galicia 0,0) crashed at turn 12. Dalla Porta was fortunate enough to walk away and re-join the session, while Navarro was taken to hospital for further checks at the Cesena Trauma Centre.
Scotsman John McPhee on the SAXOPRINT RTG Honda ended the session down in 30th after running off track at the end of the session with mechanical issues.
