Lorenzo: “I wasn‘t quite satisfied'

New parts and a new surface see Jorge Lorenzo fly around the Misano circuit, setting a new lap record.

The 2015 edition of the Gran Premio TIM di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini sees the Misano circuit completely resurfaced, providing more grip and reducing the bumps that had become a major problem inn previous years. Jorge Lorenzo immediately got up to speed at one of his favourite, and most successful tacks, on the MotoGP™ World Championship calendar. FP1 saw the Movistar Yamaha rider finish just behind Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) but with a clear plan on how to improve in FP2.

Not only did Lorenzo alter the set up of his Yamaha M1 in FP2, his team also introduced brand new aerodynamic winglets that they tested in Aragon. The combination of revisions to bike setting and the addition of winglets saw Lorenzo set a 1’32.871 to lead the day, and set a new circuit best lap record. Despite this, Lorenzo is still not happy with the setting of his bike and feels there is room to improve. During Free Practice 2 Lorenzo was able to set 11 laps in the 1’33s, the best provisional race pace of any rider.

Jorge Lorenzo: “We have been fast since the beginning of this morning‘s session and I like the new surface of the track, I think it suits my riding style. We tried some different settings in the afternoon that I wasn‘t quite satisfied about, but even with a less than perfect set-up we still managed to have a fast and constant pace with both tyres. We first rode with the hard rear and used the soft at the end and finished in first place. I think that, if we can improve the bike and try the hard tyre, we can make another step forward tomorrow. We are still trying out the winglets to understand the benefit.
