Marquez: “We tried a new swingarm”

Marc Marquez finished just 0.053s behind Jorge Lorenzo on Friday despite trying out a new swingarm.

Repsol Honda’s Marquez ended FP1 in top, and improved in FP2, but missed out on top spot to Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo. It is the fourth race in a row that these two have occupied the top two slots on Friday. The Spaniard also took some time to try out a new swingarm for his RC213V, with mixed results.

Marquez set a 1’32.924 to improve by over four-tenths from the morning session to finish 0.334s ahead of teammate Dani Pedrosa in third. Marquez focused on running on a hard front and hard rear tyre combination in FP2 and he looked consistently quick. Marquez has never won at Misano before, but he will hope to claim his second pole position at the Italian track - and seventh of 2015 - in Qualifying on Saturday.

Marc Marquez: “I think it has been a very positive day. The track has changed quite a lot from when we came here for the test, because it has much less grip and we have had some problems arise that we didn't have back then. We can be happy, because we obtained a lot of data today and we tried a new swingarm that has helped Honda to understand the direction to take next year. We will not use it because there are some negatives, but there were also some positives to take from it.”
