Pedrosa: “It was a lot dirtier”

Pedrosa: “It was a lot dirtier”

A promising first day at the Gran Premio TIM di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini for Dani Pedrosa, but work to do.

The opening day of practice saw Dani Pedrosa somewhat disappointed; he and his Repsol Honda team were expecting more after testing at the circuit before the summer break.  Pedrosa felt the track was dirty and had much less grip than on their previous visit, resulting in him being unable to find a solid setting for his bike. The Honda rider was still able to improve his time by more than six tenths between FP1 and FP2, eventually ending the day in third overall.

During Free Practice 2 Pedrosa set nine laps in the 1’33s showing an early race pace similar to the likes of Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP). Pedrosa lamented the rain during the British GP, but fortunately for the Spaniard the weather forecast for the rest of the weekend looks promising. Many thought that the lower temperatures of Friday would produce better grip, but it seems this wasn’t the case.

Dani Pedrosa: “This first day at the track was not as good as the test we did here. It was a lot dirtier, we had less grip and it was more difficult to find a good feeling with the bike, which is a surprise as I expected with the lower temperatures than the test, the grip would be better. Today we worked well and pushed hard but tomorrow we need to continue working and focus on improving further."
