Kent: “We have to expect a big fight during tomorrow’s race”

The Gran Premio TIM di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini sees Danny Kent start from the front row for the tenth time.

A small problem with his Leopard Racing Honda didn’t worry Danny Kent as Qualifying for the Moto3™ World Championship got underway. He and his team were able to work on the issue throughout the session and on his final exit Kent was able to push with confidence. A 1’42.782 has the Brit lining up third for Sundays race, 0.296 off pole position with Misano’s new surface producing recording breaking times in all classes. Front end feeling has been somewhat lacking all weekend for Kent but he and his team feel they’ve solved the problem.

Sunday’s race will not be an easy one, Italians Romano Fenati (SKY Racing Team VR46) and Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing Team Moto3) are out for home glory. With both riders starting in the top five, Kent will have his work cut out for him as soon as the lights go so a strong start will be vital if he wants to avoid any issues. Even in a heated battle, Kent feels he has a strong chance of winning Sunday’s race and continuing to extend his championship lead.

Danny Kent: “You know our target is always to qualify for the first two rows at least because this gives us a realistic chance to win the race at every circuit, so I’m happy with another front row start. We were strong all weekend long, I have a good feeling with the bike and I’m also happy with the changes to the track like with the new surface. But I think we have to expect a big fight during tomorrow’s race, especially with Bastianini and Fenati because they of course will try and do everything to win in front of their home crowd as well as they want to recover some points to us. Nevertheless we still have a good chance to win and we are ready to mess up with them tomorrow. Today’s qualifying itself started not so well for us as we had a few problems with the bike during my first exit. I missed something at the front but like yesterday for the final exit the bikes seemed ok again. But in overall the feeling with the bike is good and we did a good job for the race. So thanks to my fantastic working crew.”
