Nakagami: “This is dedicated to Shoya Tomizawa”

Nakagami: “This is dedicated to Shoya Tomizawa”

Takaaki Nakagami returned to the Moto2™ podium for the first time in 2 years at the San Marino GP.

Nakagami started the race from eighth and after gambling on a medium rear tyre rode a brilliant race to secure third and take his first podium since the 2013 San Marino Grand Prix.

The Japanese rider fought his way through the field and then had to manage his tyre life as the grip level dropped towards the end of the race. Nakagami dedicated his podium to his friend Showa Tomizawa, winner of the first ever Moto2™ race who sadly passed away at Misano in 2010.

The Idemitsu Honda Team Asia rider is now looking forward to getting back on his bike at the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragon on the 27th September.

Takaaki Nakagami: “All the weekend the team did a great job. The tyre choice we left until the last minute. We were still undecided but I prefer the grip with the soft so I went with that. In the end it was so hard to keep the rhythm. This is dedicated to Shoya and my family, everyone! It’s a fantastic feeling.”
