Smith: “The podium finish really motivates me”

Confidence at an all time high, Bradley Smith heads to the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragon.

A do-or-die gamble for Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Bradley Smith paid off at the San Marino GP, the Brit’s choice to remain on slicks despite the rain proving a masterstroke. The strong second place gained in Misano has Smith’s confidence even higher, an excellent 2015 season going from strength to strength for the British rider who currently holds the honour of leading satellite rider in the MotoGP™ World Championship. Fifth in the World Championship rankings with 135 points is an impressive achievement regardless of machinery.

Despite having had great success in the wet conditions of Misano, Smith is hoping Aragon will remain dry as is predicated. Since joining the MotoGP™ class, Smith has had a best finish of fifth at Aragon in 2014 improving upon his seventh from the year before. The 2015 season has Smith reborn, gone are the frequent crashes of 2014 instead replaced with a calm and consistent approach, competitive at almost every round. Scoring as many points as possible will be Smith’s goal, as it is at every round.

Bradley Smith: “Firstly, it goes without saying that I can't wait to get back on the Yamaha after the great result that we had last weekend! It was a complicated race there but I clenched my teeth, took the gamble and it paid off. To score second really is a highlight of this season and it is a testament to the hard work that the team and I have put in. Therefore, at this weekend we will try again and of course the podium finish really motivates me for further success. Fortunately, it looks as though the Aragon race should be dry, but never say never. Last year I finished the race in fifth which was positive, yet this season, I feel I am in a much better place and my confidence has increased. However, the Championship is a lot more competitive, so I'll be pushing to repeat last season's result this time. We will see what happens in the race on Sunday, but I am ready to fight and score another solid result, plus with Yamaha having tested there this summer, my confidence is even higher.”
