Iannone: “Following Jorge gave me a hand in improving”

Iannone: “Following Jorge gave me a hand in improving”

Andrea Iannone perfectly uses the slipstream to grab second on the grid for the Pramac Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

For the fifth time in 2015 Ducati Team’s Andrea Iannone will line up on the front row, having set a 1’28.680 to secure second. The lap came behind Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha) and the pair set identical times, in situations such as this the rider with the second fastest time is awarded the advantage. As such Iannone will start second as he hunts for glory at the Australian GP. In the hands of Casey Stoner, Ducati dominated Phillip Island but have not claimed victory since 2010 at the Australian circuit. Even without Lorenzo, Iannone’s pace looks strong and consistent.

The Australian GP is an important race for Iannone as he aims to make up for the disappointment of his DNF in Japan due to technical problems. A fast start will be important as all the riders in the top seven look to have the speed to battle for at least a podium finish.

Andrea Iannone: “A very positive qualifying session for me: it was really important to be able to start from the front row tomorrow. Let’s hope we can make a good start in the race, because here it is essential. For sure following Jorge gave me a hand in improving my lap time, but we have been quick all weekend in every session, we have worked well and we’ve always improved the bike. In the race we have to be quick right from the start, because it’s important on this track. In any case I am really happy and upbeat: I’d like to thank all the guys in my team who, despite some difficulties, always manage to find the right solutions, even at the last minute.”
