The reigning Moto2™ World Champion could set a new record for podiums and points in the intermediate class.
Throughout 2015 Johann Zarco has dominated the intermediate class, wining the title in Japan and taking a total of eight wins in 17 races. The Ajo Motorsport rider now has a chance to take his 15th podium of the year, this would set a new record for number of podium finishes in the intermediate class. The past two years in the Moto2™ World Championship have seen Zarco score two third place finishes in Valencia, the Frenchman certainly having the historical form to take the record. Along with the most podiums, Zarco could also set a new points record if he finishes anywhere inside the top 12.
In the face of all these records, Zarco remains firmly focused on winning. Kalex have yet to win a Moto2™ race at the Ricardo Tormo circuit and the Frenchman is hoping to change this fact after such a successful season on the Kalex. On only three occasions has Zarco finished off the podium, and never outside the top ten.
Johann Zarco: “We are looking forward to the final round of the World Championship in Valencia. Last year I managed to get on the podium, so we have a good memory coming into this weekend. It was also there that we had some of our first tests with the Kalex last season, and where I started to understand how to go fast with this bike. Now we are in November and it is already starting to get cold, so we must adapt to the conditions. Valencia is a nice circuit, which had its surface relayed a few years ago –allowing us to go very fast. It has many left handers, so when you have a right hander you need to be careful.”
“The goal, as always, should be the victory. We will focus on that and put the records to one side. If I do my work as I have at each Grand Prix up to now, the records will come. Also, doing a good job will help us for 2016."
