Fausto Gresini: “In this season we learned a lot”

Gresini Racing’s Team Manager Fausto Gresini reflects on Enea Bastianini’s Moto3™ season that saw him finish in third in the championship.

With the third place of Enea Bastianini in the 2015 Moto3 Campaign, Gresini Racing wrapped up another very positive season in the smaller displacement of the World Championship: a result that further demonstrates the validity of the project started back in 2012 to give to the most promising Italian talents an opportunity to undertake a growth path up to the pinnacle of motorcycle racing.

Brought to debut in 2014, Bastianini immediately showed to be one of the most interesting talents on the world stage, collecting three podium finishes and claiming the “Rookie of the Year” trophy. The season just ended has instead seen him fighting for the world title, started right away with the amazing comeback from the 21st position on the grid to the second place under the checkered flag in the night of Qatar, last March, just 0.027 seconds from victory.

Enea then came very close to the win on three other occasions: in Le Mans, in Barcelona and at the Sachsenring, before finally hit success at Misano, in the San Marino and Riviera di Rimini Grand Prix, in a perfect weekend in which the “Beast” also started from pole position.

In the end, the 207 points collected thanks to one win, six podium finishes and a total of 15 top ten finishes out of 18 races, led Bastianini to the podium in the overall standings, together with World Champion Danny Kent and Miguel Oliveira.

Fausto Gresini: “The third place in the Championship is a great achievement, it’s nice to be on the podium! In the last two years we have demonstrated the validity of the Moto3 project, started with enthusiasm in 2012, winning the Rookie of the Year trophy last season with Bastianini and then battling this year for the world title. Our season got off immediately in an exciting way in Qatar, with Enea who missed the victory for just 0.027 seconds after a superb comeback from the seventh row of the grid; a performance that was followed by many other beautiful results: six podium finishes, including the great win in our home Grand Prix at Misano, shows that our level of competitiveness has always been very high. We have also gone through some difficulties and we are aware of it, but we will take it as a lesson for the future: in this season we learned a lot and we put the basis to be even more competitive in 2016, an important year in which we do not hide to set ambitious goals. The assessment of 2015 is then absolutely positive: I would like to thank Enea, all the team and all the partners that have supported us in this adventure. I also thank Locatelli for his commitment: I think that Andrea, who made an excellent start to the season with the stunning front row and the seventh place finish in Austin, learned a lot too and now is ready to face new challenges. We wish him great luck.”
