Luca Marini in Moto2™ for 2016 with Forward Racing

Luca Marini in Moto2™ for 2016 with Forward Racing

Luca Marini, Valentino Rossi’s half brother, will compete in the 2016 Moto2™ World Championship with Forward Racing.

The promising 18-year-old from Tavullia, who is a part of the VR46 Riders Academy, has signed a multi-year contract with Giovanni Cuzari to join Lorenzo Baldassarri riding the Kalex for the 2016 season.

Marini finished fifth overall in the FIM CEV Repsol European Moto2™ Championship in 2015 and will compete full time in the World Championship for the first time after wildcards in 2013 (Moto3™) and earlier this season at Misano (Moto2™). This announcement further strengthens the bond between Forward Racing and the VR46 Riders Academy, who share the combined vision of trying to develop the next generation of Italian motorcycle racing stars.

Giovanni Cuzari: “I'm really happy to announce the arrival of a new rider for the 2016 season. Luca is a young rider that we are proud to welcome to our team with the goal of growing together. Luca will be deployed alongside the "Balda" and together will form a pair of talented young Italians riding the Kalex of Forward Racing. To confirm the confidence and support that VR46 Riders Academy wanted to give our project for 2016 is also for me a further reason for satisfaction.”

Luca Marini: “I am happy and at the same time excited for this great opportunity! Next season will be very important and demanding. To join Forward Racing is a great opportunity for me to learn, the team and my teammate, and to grow: I am going to try and exploit it to the fullest! I want to thank Giovanni and the VR46 Riders Academy for this opportunity and I hope to repay their trust with my work.”
