A Flat Track race opened the newest edition of the SIC Day 2015 at the Misano World Circuit.
The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli opened its gates this weekend to celebrate the man who gives the circuit its name. This is the fourth edition of the SIC Day, the first to be held in Misano and organised by Frederick Capogna with the aim of assisting the Marco Simoncelli Foundation in carrying on Simoncelli’s legacy.
This year the SIC Day takes on a revised format, leaving behind its Supermoto origins in favour of the spectacle of the highly popular Flat Track style of racing. Flat Track has become increasingly popular with riders, who use it to improve their skills, and fans who love the close action of the races.
Today, on the eve of the main event on Sunday, the riders took to the dirt oval in Misano for a number of exciting challenges that offered the fans a great spectacle. After various heats and Last Chance races, the event reached a climax with the Grand Final where the eight top riders battled it out, the last two being eliminated every two laps.
The first two eliminated were David Gimenez and Francesco Bagnaia, then Francesco Cecchini, Thomas Chareyre and Ivan Lazzarini lost out and finally Andrea Dovizioso. The ultimate challenge was between Moto2™ rider Mattia Pasini and Austrian Supermoto racer Lukas Hollbacher, ranked number three in the world. Pasini led the battle until the last lap when the Austrian struck and overtook the Italian, taking the first win of SIC Day 2015.
Sunday sees the programme continue with other competitions, yet more guests and not only more Flat Track racing, but also a show of cars and a Kart race featuring several famous Italians from outside of racing.
