Iannone: “We still have a lot of potential”

Returning to the site of his first MotoGP™ podium, Andrea Iannone enters 2016 ready for a fight.

The end of 2015 saw Andrea Iannone emerge as one of the stand out riders in the MotoGP™ World Championship, his ride in Australia causing many to ask if he was the newest ‘alien’. But Iannone’s arrival as a contender for victory came much earlier that year when he battled with Ducati Team teammate Andrea Dovizioso and Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) for the podium. With a new motorcycle for 2016 Iannone is hoping of not only repeating this performance but also improving in the hope of getting Ducati their first win in over half a decade. Testing has been promising with Iannone completing a race simulation in Qatar and still remaining competitive on the time sheets.

Testing in now over and all that counts is a rider’s final position on Sunday, battling for the 2016 title the goal of all the factory riders. Iannone knows it won’t be easy, a number of rule changes in the premier class mean that more riders than ever will be able to battle for victory. The Qatar Test offered Iannone a lot of hope and anticipation, the Italian able to improve with each day. He now aims to keep that trend up through the four practice sessions in Qatar before Qualifying and the race.

Andrea Iannone: “Last year I had a great race, and I scored a fantastic first MotoGP podium so it is a good memory for me. With the rule changes, I think that this year will see a good fight up front, because all the riders are closer, but we can also be competitive and will try our best to get on the podium again. The last test in Qatar was the best one for me, because day after day I was able to improve the feeling with the bike and with the Michelin tyres. We worked well, but we are only at the start with the new bike and we still have a lot of potential.”
