A seventh place from Stefan Bradl in Argentina saw Aprilia secure their best ever finish in the premier class.
It was a race full of unknowns for the MotoGP™ World Championship, all the riders required to make a mid-race bike change to avoid issues with the rear tyres. Stefan Bradl and the Aprilia Racing Team Gresini played it to perfection, coming in on the first lap of the three-lap window after a less than perfect start and making up several positions in pit lane. Once back out on track, Bradl focused on maintaining his position while others around him crashed out. As a result of a steady and consistent pace, the German found himself in seventh as the race came to a close.
His teammate, Alvaro Bautista, had a more difficult race but was able to seal tenth place. Overall it was a great day in Argentina for Aprilia who not only achieved their highest ever finish, but also their first top ten. The new RS-GP is still in its infancy, but is already performing much better than the 2015 version. More races mean more data for Aprilia, the Noale factory pleased with the progress made in the first two races after a late start to pre-season testing.
Stefan Bradl: ““This is a fantastic result for Aprilia, for the team and for me. The first race with the 2016 RS-GP wasn't particularly lucky but today we redeemed ourselves. In these difficult circumstances we did an excellent job. Even the strategy of stopping straight away to change bikes proved to be the right way to go. We gained a few positions during the pit stop and I was able to be fast straight away with the second bike. In any case, it wasn't easy to stay on the track. There were damp spots everywhere. I risked going down a couple of times so I decided to slow my pace in order not to crash. Also, the rear tyre on my second bike wasn't giving me the same feeling, so I couldn't push any harder. My compliments to Aprilia and the guys on my team. It was truly an incredible race.”
