Folger: “It was hard to test my limits”

Jonas Folger remains with the leaders throughout the race in Argentina to secure third and his first podium with Dynavolt Intact GP.

During the course of the weekend, the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit in Argentina had seen hot and humid conditions but on race day it all changed. Rain made Sunday an adventure into the unknown, the situation made even more complicated as the race itself was held on a drying track. The Moto3™ race before made it clear slicks were the only choice for the race, but conditions were still uncertain and the race got off to a slow start. Folger adapted quickly and led the intermediate class for the first two laps. His rivals would eventually slip past him, but the Bavarian was able to rally and stay involved in the podium battle.

Third would be Folger’s reward at the end of a long hard race, the German working to remain upright and avoid an unforced mistake as in Qatar. After two rounds Folger sits ninth in the standings with 16 points, 18 behind series leader Thomas Luthi (Garage Plus Interwetten).

Jonas Folger: “I am really happy. Qatar had been a disappointment for us and this weekend we worked really hard, although the conditions here have also been difficult. However, we finished amongst the top riders, which was very important from a motivational perspective. The race has been very difficult. In the beginning it was hard to test my limits, as the track was still wet in some parts. Normally you hardly have any grip on slick tyres if the track is partly wet, but here it was not too bad after all. I was leading the field in the beginning, but then Johann, Sam and Morbidelli caught up with me.

“It wasn’t easy to keep up with them after that, as their pace was really high. However I managed to hold my position and was hoping to be able to attack again during the last lap. But then Morbidelli crashed in front of me and the gap between me and Sam became too big. Anyway, to me it was important come out of this round with some points. It is a great feeling for all of us to be on the podium for the first time. The team has done a brilliant job and this is the way to continue.”
