Lady Luck has avoided Andrea Dovizioso in the last two rounds, but he remains upbeat and focused on returning to the podium.
In all three races held so far in 2016, Andrea Dovizioso has looked to be in podium contention. The Italian has sat comfortably in second or third until, through no fault of his own, he was brought down by another rider. But the past is the past for ‘Desmo Dovi’ and he doesn’t wish to linger on his misfortune and has instead reflected on the positives. In all three races Dovizioso and the Ducati Team were able to challenge for the podium, proof that the 2016 machine is the best Ducati yet. Their plan is to continue working as they have done in the first three rounds and hope that Lady Luck decides to smile on them once again.
2015’s Spanish GP was an unfortunate race for Dovizioso who made a mistake on the second lap and was subsequently forced to race through the field, ending ninth. Despite having seven top ten finishes at Jerez since joining the MotoGP™World Championship in 2008, the Italian has never finished on the podium there. In the 250cc class Dovizioso claimed two third place finishes in 2006 and 2007.
Andrea Dovizioso: “Unfortunately in the last two races I missed out on two possible podium finishes, not through any fault of my own, and this is clearly a frustrating situation that reflects on my position in the standings. I am relaxed about it however because I know that in the first three races this season, I’ve always worked really well with my team throughout the weekend and I have shown that I am competitive on track. Jerez is one of the toughest circuits for the Ducati and for me, but I am very confident in what we have and so I’ll also be pushing hard in Spain to try and get back on the podium.”
