Lorenzo: “The layout is perfect for the YZR-M1”

Victory in France and the championship lead have Jorge Lorenzo fired up for one of his favourite rounds of the year at the glorious Mugello

Le Mans saw Jorge Lorenzo at his best, sprinting ahead at the front of the race and running away with victory, other riders unable to challenge him after the opening corners. Lorenzo was perfect and took back the championship lead after Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) crashed from the race, finishing a lowly 13th. The results of the French GP have the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP rider ready to go in Mugello, excited to once again make his YZR-M1 flow around the incredible Tuscan track. Lorenzo’s goal is to leave Mugello on Sunday with the championship lead still in hand.

Having taken four wins at the track in the premier class, Lorenzo’s record is the strongest of any rider in recent years. Since 2009 he hasn’t finished outside the two, a truly formidable record. The combination of Lorenzo’s smooth style and the M1’s love of fast and flowing corners has produced magic, Lorenzo almost uncatchable most years. But nothing in 2016 is certain as the new electronics and tyres have riders regularly taking a step into the unknown with little to no previous data to rely on.

Jorge Lorenzo: “We arrive in Mugello with the great satisfaction of the last race in France. At Le Mans we got an important victory and we are leading the championship so we are pretty motivated for the coming races, especially the one in Mugello, a track that I usually enjoy a lot and where I‘ve had some fun in the past. It‘s one of my favourite places to ride and one of the most beautiful tracks in the world. The layout is perfect for the YZR-M1 and for my riding style as well so let‘s see what happen this season with the new electronics and tyres.”
