Binder re-writing record books

Binder re-writing record books

Moto3™ Championship leader Brad Binder’s victory at Mugello continues to see the South African re-write the record books.

Brad Binder continued his great start to 2016 with victory at Mugello, and with it continues to enter his name in the record books:

  • Binder’s win at Jerez was the first ever in the lightweight-class of grand prix racing for a rider from South Africa.

  • Binder is the first South African rider to win a GP in any class since Jon Ekerold won the 350cc race at Monza in 1981.

  • With his win at Mugello, Binder extends his lead in the world championship that he has held since finishing third in Argentina - the first South African rider to lead a grand prix championship across all classes since Jon Ekerold led the 350cc title chase after the opening two races of the 1981 season.

  • With his win at Le Mans he became the first South African rider to take back-to-back wins in any class since Jon Ekerold won the final 350cc race of the 1980 season at the Nurburgring and the opening race of 1981 in Argentina.

  • With his win in Mugello Binder is the first South African rider in any of the grand prix classes to win three or more successive races since Kork Ballington in the 250cc class in 1979.
