Hernandez: “It is not one of my favourites”

A cautious Yonny Hernandez arrives in Assen hoping to turn a tough 2016 season around, but it’ll be difficult at a track he doesn’t enjoy.

From the first seven races of the 2016 MotoGP™ World Championship season Yonny Hernandez (Aspar Team MotoGP) has managed just three points and sits 22nd in the championship table. The Colombian has shown flashes of speed during practice and qualifying but come race day bad luck and misfortune have frequently hit. In Barcelona he had to pit with rear tyre issues after a strong start to the race, continuing an all too common theme to his season. For the Motul TT Assen, the Ducati rider is hoping to make a similarly strong start but avoid issues. Doing so could be tough as Hernandez has never gotten on particularly well with the historic circuit, 14th in 2015 his best premier class result there. With his teammate Eugene Laverty (Aspar Team MotoGP) having taken points in each round, the bike and the team are clearly capable of the top 15 and Hernandez just needs some good fortune.

Yonny Hernandez: “Assen is a circuit where I have struggled in the past to achieve a good result. It is not one of my favourites but we will work with the same attitude as every other round to prepare for the race in the best possible way. I am full of positive energy ready for another race in this World Championship. We are keeping our heads up despite the last few results, which do not reflect our true level, and preparing with the same intensity. It is always important to keep a cool head during the toughest moments and to never lose hope.”
