Espargaro and Hernandez advance to Q2 after tough Q1

Rain eased but the track stayed wet for Q1, Hernandez and Pol Espargaro avoiding any incidents to top the session.

Riders got to sample the conditions in Free Practice 4, many of them crashing out. Hector Barbera (Avintia Racing) was the first victim of the damp track in Q1, coming off at Turn 10 with seven minutes to go. Turn 10 proved a difficult one for Jack Miller (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) as well who crashed not long after.

Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) put in a wonderful last lap to just sneak into first position, a 1’48.482 only 0.053s faster than Yonny Hernandez (Aspar Team MotoGP). The pair will now battle for pole in Q2 with the rest of the MotoGP™ World Championship.

It proved a disastrous day for Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) who will line up 16th on the grid for Sunday’s race.

Replacement rider Michele Pirro (Avintia Racing) suffered a fall at Turn 16. He was unharmed in the fall.
