With a 1’21.712 Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Yakhnich) headed through to Q2 as the fastest rider from the first Qualifying shootout. It was by no means an easy session, the top three within 0.071s.
Q1 was a big session for Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), the World Champion’s first visit to the do-or-die session. His passage into Q2 was by no means certain as the session began, but he dug deep to set a 1’21.737 and top the session until the final laps. He tried to push for a faster lap time but slipped off at Turn 8 after being pushed to second in the session by Danilo Petrucci. Lorenzo was unharmed in the fall and returned to the garage in time for Q2.
