Iannone outdoes Ducati expectations for a front row

Austrian GP winner P3 after a last lap flyer in Q2

Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) will begin the HJC Helmets Grand Prix České Republiky from the front row of the grid after a final attempt knocked Aleix Espargaro (Team Suzuki Ecstar) back onto the second row. Iannone, who was on pole in Austria and took the first Ducati win since Phillip Island in 2010, didn’t expect to be fighting so far up in qualifying for the Czech GP, but is happy with the impressive starting point ahead of having shown good race pace for Sunday.

Andrea Iannone (P3): “It’s always important to start from the front row and I’m very happy with this result because today I thought it would be very difficult to get a front row start. When I came back on track for qualifying my engineers didn’t expect this and we thought the second row would be good for us. But I pushed 100% and risked a lot, and I think this front row is very important for tomorrow. After the win in Austria I think I’m reacting differently to the second half of the season so let’s see tomorrow.”
