Lorenzo calls “close competition” in Motegi

Reigning World Champion leads the way on Day 1 in Japan

Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) had a great first day at the Twin Ring Motegi – home of manufacturer Yamaha – as the five-time World Champion went third quickest in the morning and ended the day topping the timesheets in the latter stages of FP2. With track temperatures warmer until a drop later in the day, Lorenzo was one of those who didn’t fall victim in the final minutes of FP2, as the 2009, 2013 and 2014 race winner at Motegi aims to repeat the feat in 2016.

Jorge Lorenzo (P1): “Very positive day. Third in the morning and in the afternoon we improved the feeling a lot and the bike in most of the corners. With the soft tyre we made a good lap time and we were first. It’s important the weather stays like this – not colder than now because in the last ten minutes the temperature lowered a lot and the grip was less, that’s why so many riders crashed. So it’s important the weather stays like this because we have a great package to fight for the victory. There’s close competition with a lot of riders and manufactures able to fight to win.”
