Nakagami tops Moto2™ test in Jerez

Japanese rider fastest on day one of the first intermediate class testing for 2017

Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) went quickest on day one of the Jerez pre-season Moto2™ test, registering a 1:42.181 to stay P1 from Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider Alex Marquez. 2014 Moto3™ Champion Marquez ended the day in second, 0.297 off the top.

Lorenzo Baldassarri and Luca Marini (Forward Racing Team) were third and fourth, with Misano winner Baldassarri on a 1:42.520 – 0.278 clear of his teammate. 2015 Moto3™ Champion Danny Kent started day one of 2017 in a solid P5 with a 1:43.156, with new teammate Dominique Aegerter in P7, a tenth and a half behind Kent as the team switch to a Suter chassis.

Edgar Pons (Paginas Amarillas HP40) was the rider in between the Leopard teammates in P6 on a 1:43.212, with new teammate Fabio Quartararo putting in the most laps – over 100 – with a best of 1:44.337 in P13.

Miguel Oliveira and Brad Binder debuted the new KTM Moto2™ chassis with Red Bull KTM Ajo, with Oliveira completing 84 laps and Binder 70, and Oliveira in P8 on the positive debut for the ambitious new project.

Mattia Pasini (Italtrans Racing Team), Isaac Viñales (SAG Team) and Yonny Hernandez (AGR Team) were P11, P12 and P13 on day one.

Francesco Bagnaia and Stefano Manzi (Sky Racing Team VR46) were P9 and P18 respectively, and ‘Pecco’ top rookie, with fellow debutants in the class Jorge Navarro (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2), Andrea Locatelli (Italtrans Racing Team), Axel Bassani (Speed Up) and Khairul Idham Pawi (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) also getting their first taste of Moto2™.
