Crutchlow remains top Honda

Brit gets in more running and takes P4 at Losail on Day 2

Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) followed up a Day 1 of two halves with some lesser frustrations on Day 2 of the #QatarTest, after the two-time GP winner got in a bigger program of work on the second day despite another technical issue. Ending action in P4 with a 1:55.035 - faster than Day 1 although a position further back - Crutchlow is looking for more in corner entry, and didn’t set his fastest lap on the soft tyre.

The LCR Honda rider did suffer a fall in the session, but was unharmed and headed back to the box. Day 3 has a longer race simulation planned, and Crutchlow is hoping for a smoother day of running with no glitches and no crashes.

Cal Crutchlow, P4: “We were able to do more laps than yesterday although we had the same problem as yesterday. But Honda and the team rallied well and we were able to get out on track and use the bike. We need to improve in corner entry and we’re locking the rear wheel at the moment. I was happy to do my fastest lap not on the softer tyre. When I went out on the soft I crashed…but it was completely my own fault. I went in too hot, I thought I could make the final corner and I couldn’t. I had a 50/50 choice and chose the wrong one.

“I feel more comfortable riding the bike over long distance than pushing for a laptime, which is good. I think some guys here have just been able to take their brain out for a few hours and been able to push, so we’ll see how they are in a race situation.”
