Lüthi: “I couldn’t follow the guys in front”

Swiss Championship hopeful talks “lucky podium” in Qatar

Tom Lüthi (CarXpert Interwetten) looked set for a solid fourth in the Argentina GP, before a crash up ahead saw the Swiss veteran promoted to the third step on the podium for a second consecutive rostrum finish. Unable to stay with the pace of the EG 0,0 VDS riders in the early stages followed by Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) as the race went on, the 2016 Championship runner up then had a big moment and had settled into defending fourth – happy to then get promoted to third and take home even more points ahead of Austin.

Tom Lüthi, P3: “Before the race maybe the podium wasn’t unexpected but during the race, for sure. It was a lucky podium, but we’ll take these opoints because they’ll be important for the championship. But during the race it was tough and I couldn’t follow the guys in front, I didn’t have the grip. I didn’t have the drive out the corners. Then I thought I could stay with oliveira and he had more grip- - he could even catch the leading guys so that was very impressive. Then I had a big moment in the final corner and I lamost went down so I looked back and saw I could defend fourth, but in the end a lucky podium. I’m looking forward to Austin now, there’s time to go home in between, relax and get some energy back – then be ready in Austin.”
