Mir: “I didn’t think I could win!”

Mallorcan sets the early standard with a stunning comeback in Argentina

Joan Mir (Leopard Racing) was no stranger to fighting back through the field in 2016 on his way to the Rookie of the Year title, and the Championship leader did it again in the Gran Premio Motul de la Republica Argentina, taking a stunning win from sixteenth on the grid.

Mir, who won in Qatar atop the same podium, consolidated his menacing pace from the season opener to make it two out of two for 2017 – holding off John McPhee (British Talent Team) with perfect tactics on the last lap and growing his lead in the standings to 10 points.

Joan Mir, P1: “What an incredible race! It was hard for me especially in the start and, once I arrived in the front group, I had to manage it in the best way. We started the championship great, but it’s just the second race – everything can change in an instant, we must keep our feet on the ground. In truth I didn’t think I could win this race, because I started so far back; I tried to stay calm. It was a totally different race from Qatar, but I am very happy and want to thank the whole team!”
