Fabio Di Giannantonion (Del Conca Gresini Racing Moto3) broke his collarbone in pre-season testing, and had a tough start to the Moto3™ season including an incident with Nicolo Bulega (Sky Racing Team VR46) in Argentina that saw the Gresini rider crash out and the VR46 academy rider penalised.
A page turned in Austin, as the sophomore stood on the podium once again after an incredible rookie campaign in 2016, and attacked teammate Jorge Martin into the last corner – just losing out to the Spaniard by 0.023 across the line to come home in third.
Fabio Di Giannantonio, P3: “This podium is what I needed after the difficult start of the season: in Qatar I was far from the top positions while in Argetina it was a disaster, so here the goal was to push 100% and get a great result. I was really riding at the limit and beyond, and in the end I tried to pass my team mate for second but it was a little too late for that. It was really important for to get this result not just for me, but also for the guys and all the team.”
