Pol Espargaro (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) topped Q1 at Valencia to move through to fight for the top twelve grid positions once more, heading the timesheets from brother Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini). Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) continued to find the going tough in the season finale as he just failed to make it through, and will start P13.
Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) was another big name who didn't move through, with the Brit crashing on a fast lap and unable to make it back out in time - pushed out in the latter stages after running second.
