Agostini: “Marquez will be able to equal me - or win more”

Italian legend tells Bikesport News he believes Marquez will be able to equal his number of premier class titles

In a recent interview over on bikesportnews.com, Giacomo Agostini says he believes Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) could equal or beat his count of premier class World Championships. The Italian legend has 15 titles overall, of which eight are in the premier class – meaning Marquez currently sits halfway there.

When asked, Agostini’s initial response is “I think so”, and the Italian expounds on the statement further when he considers Marquez’ age: “I think Marc will be able to either equal or win more than me because he’s young and very fast. So he has every chance to win another four or more MotoGP World Championships.”

The Italian is then asked what the Spaniard has that makes him so special, and creates a further comparison: he himself, much like Marquez, doesn’t know. “I don’t know. If you ask Marc as well, he also doesn’t know. Same question if you ask me why I win many times, I don’t know. I think it’s something inside of you when you are born. It’s a natural gift from God.”

The number 93 will be gunning for title number seven overall – and his fifth premier class crown – in 2018, with action beginning soon at Sepang International Circuit for the first test.
