2018 MotoGP™ eSport Championship: the season so far!

The Austrian GP hosted Challenge 4 of the 2018 eSport Championship, but what has happened so far this season?

Tags 2018

The opening challenge for the 2018 MotoGP™ eSport Championship saw competitors aiming to set the fastest lap around the stunning 5.5km Circuit of the Americas in Texas on Marc Marquez’s Honda RC213V – the bike and rider who have dominated the venue since it joined the MotoGP™ calendar. Beginning on 18th July, the challenge got the season in gear in style.

With players automatically racing in the premier class, it meant that their fastest time in the on MotoGP™ machinery would be the one that counts in getting to the top of the leaderboard. Unlike in 2017, the option to modify setup on the motorcycles is available this year, making it even more of a challenge at the top.

The quickest times for Challenge #1 saw SUOMY on PC set a 1:54.595, closely followed by the best PS4 lap which was set by ANDREWZH – a 1:54.659. Reigning Champion TRASTEVERE_73 was quickest on XBOX ONE with his time of 1:55.136 and moves through to continue his quest to retain the crown.

But THIMOTHYMCGARDEN61, second on XBOX ONE with a 1:46.573, will replace JACK HAMMER4658 in Semi Final 1.

Finally, Challenge #4 completed the line-up for the first Semi Final. The spectacular Styrian Alps in Austria were the backdrop as gamers tackled the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg on Andrea Iannone’s Suzuki GSX-RR. PAUL_IG on PC was the quickest with a 1:18.497, AADRIAN_26 on PS4 with a 1:18.523 and IOTIFOROSSI set a 1:18.838 on XBOX ONE. However, ELEGOHST555, who was second on PS4 with a 1:18.584, will be in the Semi Final 1 – ADRIAAN_26 already secured their seat in Challenge #2.

That’s the story so far – and the next chapter will be written on Friday 7th September as gamers take on Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, broadcast live from 18:30 (GMT +2)!
