Marquez: “We need to find a way to improve”

Fourth fastest overall for the Championship leader with an improved feeling in FP2 after a crash in FP1

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) ended Friday at the GoPro British Grand Prix fourth on the combined timesheets, improving his time and position in FP2 after finishing FP1 down in P10 – 1.6 seconds off the pace.

“We started this morning and there was no good feeling, not so good base setup, I was very far from the top,” explained the Championship leader, who thanked his Repsol Honda team for doing a great job between sessions to improve his bike. “Then this afternoon the team did a great job and again I got the feeling. We still need to find a way to improve.”

FP1 saw another one of the Spaniard’s customary attempts to save a crash and if it wasn’t for him running out of tarmac, he may well have prevailed: “Of course, I push and I use a lot of energy to save crashes but this morning I was there for a long time, but then I was on the natural grass – this is the only circuit where there is natural grass – and I started to lose the front. It was a small mistake.”

The six-time World Champion continued, explaining how important it was for him to get straight back on the bike and not lose time in the session, and the fact he trains for those exact ‘Marquez moments’.

“The most important thing was that I didn’t lose time. I was able to get back in the box and not lose time in the practice. For this reason, I train at home, running and cycling to be fitter for when you have movements like that.”

With Yamaha, Ducati and fellow Honda rider Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda Castrol) looking strong this weekend, can the overall standings leader continue to improve and battle for pole on Saturday?
