Dovi fastest in FP1, Marquez and Rossi outside top 10

Rain threatens FP2 and FP3 as the top ten in the opening session could have already sealed an automatic Q2 spot

Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) topped the opening session of the weekend for the premier class at the Gran Premio Octo di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini with a 1:32.608, edging out Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda Castrol) in second and Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) in third, as both Championship leader Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) and second in the standings Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) didn’t put fresh soft compound tyres on and finished outside what could be an all-important top ten – P13 and P15 respectively.

Ducat Team’s Jorge Lorenzo was fourth fastest in FP1, with fifth place Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar) rounding out the top five – the only other rider to dip under the 1:33 bracket. Despite a late crash, Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Racing) finished sixth quickest, with Hafizh Syahrin (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) the only other crasher in the session – riders ok.

Repsol Honda Team’s Dani Pedrosa and Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) were P7 and P8, with home riders Danio Petrucci (Alma Pramac Racing) and Franco Morbidelli (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) rounding out the top ten.

Will the rain hold off to allow both Marquez and Rossi a chance to improve on their lap times? Only time will tell, so make sure you tune into FP2 at 14:05 local time (GMT +2).
