The FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup is getting closer and closer on the horizon, with preparations for the new series therefore well underway. Near Modena in mid-September it was time for the mechanics who’ll be involved in the new Cup to get a little schooling in the art of the Energica Ego Corsa, with a workshop taking place over a couple of days for those present to learn some tricks of the trade.
First the project was presented, before there was an introduction to the working of the bike – and how to work on it. It was first contact for the mechanics as they got to know the new machines that will be racing in 2019, with the theoretical training complimented by practical exercises including how to prepare the bike and strip it down.
Safety and how to safely work on the machines was a top priority, with the risks of a high voltage battery pack different to those of a more traditional combustion engine. How to turn the engine on and off is also an important point, as well as how the dashboard works and how to interpret it.
The mechanics and Energica discussed some of the more physical challenges, too – including the best way to change and move the battery packs in a more compact space such as that of a pit box – and went through protocols necessary to safely set out on this parallel path of racing next season.
The biggest challenge? Adjusting to the different demands and challenges involved – the mental change in ‘setting’ required for the mechanics!
