Marquez, Rins, Dovi, Rossi: nine points in it

There’s been a Championship re-shuffle after the thrills of Jerez – but it remains nine points splitting the top four

There may have been a changing of the Championship guard after Marc Marquez’ (Repsol Honda Team) emphatic win at the Gran Premio Red Bull de España, but the gap remains at just nine points between the top four.

Marquez’ 25-point haul under the southern Spanish sun on Sunday sees him take over at the summit from Andrea Dovizioso (Mission Winnow Ducati), who in turn couldn’t get the better of Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP’s Maverick Viñales in the battle for third.

Because of this, Dovizioso actually now sits three points off Marquez in third in the overall standings because Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) was able to secure his 11th consecutive top-six finish with a second place. His P2 from ninth on the grid leaves the Spaniard one point off Marquez as three separates three riders heading to Le Mans.

And what about Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP)? Well, The Doctor once more dug out some Sunday magic to finish sixth in Jerez from 13th on the grid. Rossi slips down to fourth from second in the standings but only sees himself sit nine off Marquez.

As we’ve seen at the Spanish GP, things can change very quickly in the MotoGP™ World Championship. What does the French GP have in store in two weeks’ time?
