Cal Crutchlow seized his first podium of the MotoGP™ season in Le Mans and career-best result on Sunday, despite suffering from much pain in his right knee after a crash on Saturday. The result marked the third rostrum finish of his career so far.

Cal Crutchlow will undergo a further medical examination on Sunday morning to decide whether or not he is able to race at Le Mans. The Monster Energy Tech 3 rider crashed on the exit of La Chapelle corner during Saturday’s final practice session.

Cal Crutchlow admitted his frustration after the opening two practice sessions at Le Mans. The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider finished the day in sixth position, but went on to state that he is not feeling well and that his bike was handling badly.

Profile
Cal Crutchlow won the UK Junior Challenge in 1999 and the Aprilia RS125 Challenge in 2001 and took the British Supersport Championship in 2006. In 2007 he made his debut in British Superbike, but his status in the racing world rose quickly after claiming the 2009 World Supersport title, prompting the Briton to join the World Superbike series the following year. Crutchlow was then quickly recruited for the MotoGP class, and his debut with the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team in 2011 saw the British rider achieve a best GP career finish of 4th in Valencia and lift the Rookie of the Year title. Crutchlow remained with the Tech 3 team for 2012 at the controls of the 1000cc Yamaha, with which he took a major leap forward in results and scored his first MotoGP podium. He remains with the team in 2013 for a third year.
