Teenage German rider Jonas Folger participates in his first full World Championship season in 2009, representing the Ongetta ISPA team. Folger joined the MotoGP Academy at just 12 years of age and despite his tender age managed to finish third in the 125cc category of the Spanish national championship (CEV) in 2006. However, he struggled in 2007 with crashes, injuries and technical problems in the CEV and a fifth place at Albacete was his solitary result of note. In 2008 he gained his first World Championship experience, representing the Red Bull MotoGP Academy in the second half of the season and he is familiar with a number of the tracks on the calendar courtesy of an Academy programme which saw him entering additional national races across Europe at MotoGP venues.
