After riding for KTM in 2006, during which time he experienced a horrific fracture to his leg when hit by another rider practicing a start in Malaysia, Stefan Bradl was to move to the Honda factory 125cc team in 2007. However, the German withdrew from the World Championship after only a couple of tests, citing personal reasons. Success in the Spanish Championship meant that Bradl caught the eye of Blusens Aprilia, who drafted him in for wild card rides over the first half of the season before confirming his presence as a full-time rider for the remainder of the year.

Riding competitive machinery for the Grizzly Gas Kiefer Racing outfit in 2008 Bradl was a revelation, winning the races at Brno and Motegi, appearing on the podium six times in total and eventually finishing fourth in the standings. Bradl will attempt to push for the title in 2009.
