The 2012 MotoGP World Championship could not have ended any better for Team San Carlo Honda Gresini, with Michele Pirro taking a career best fifth place to finish the season with a CRT 'victory' whilst Alvaro Bautista took fourth to secure fifth place overall in the final championship standings.

Having begun his team as a small project running Alex Barros on a Honda V-Twin in 1997, former 125cc World Champion Fausto Gresini is now at the helm of one of the reference points for satellite outfits in MotoGP. However for the second time last year their MotoGP story was struck by tragedy, as the hugely popular Marco Simoncelli lost his life in an accident at Sepang, just as with the team’s 250cc championship winning rider Daijiro Kato at Suzuka in 2003. The team continues to pay tribute to its fallen heroes however by racing at the highest level, with Alvaro Bautista transferring from Suzuki to ride a Honda RC213V. He joins Michele Pirro, who won an emotional Moto2 finale at Valencia for the team last year, with the Italian riding a CRT bike featuring an FTR chassis and Honda engine.
