Hijo del doble campeón del Mundo de 250cc Sito Pons, Axel Pons prolonga la saga deportiva de uno de los apellidos más ilustres del motociclismo español. En su todavía corto palmarés se cuentan sus participaciones durante años recientes en el CEV y algunos buenos resultados en el Campeonato Territorial de Cataluña.

Este joven piloto se estrenó en el Campeonato del Mundo en 2008, como wild card en el Gran Premio de España de 125cc, encuadrado en la escudería Jack&Jones WRB. Los planes iniciales de participar como invitado en otras carreras mundialistas en suelo europeo se truncaron al sufrir un escalofriante accidente en una prueba del CEV Buckler de 125 celebrada en el circuito de Jerez, al ser arrollado por otro piloto. Resultó con varias fracturas que le obligaron a una esforzada recuperación de varios meses pero aún pudo reaparecer en competición en las últimas citas del certamen español.

Esta temporada debuta en el Campeonato del Mundo de 250cc formando equipo con Héctor Barberá. En su nueva aventura, a los mandos de una Aprilia LE, cuenta con el apoyo directo de su progenitor, que ha regresado al paddock mundialista para ponerse al frente de la reestructurada escudería Pepe World Pons WRB.
