El joven Pol Espargaró, hermano del piloto del equipo BQR Aleix Espargaró, se fogueó en el Campeonato del Mundo de 125cc de 2006 disputando las seis últimas carreras del año. Este prometedor piloto de Granollers (Barcelona) tomó la plaza del italiano Andrea Iannone en el equipo Campetella Racing y, a los mandos de una Derbi, debutó con la estructura italiana en el GP de la República Checa. Dos meses antes, el menor de los Espargaró había celebrado con brillantez su bautismo de fuego en el escenario mundialista en el GP de Catalunya, donde consiguió un excelente 13º puesto que le convirtió, con 15 años y ocho días, en el piloto más joven de la historia en puntuar en un Gran Premio. Su final de temporada fue espectacular: Espargaró se proclamó Campeón de España de 125cc tras sumar cinco victorias consecutivas y pocos días después concluyó su campaña mundialista con un sexto puesto en el Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana. En 2007 busca consolidarse en la categoría, encuadrado en la escudería Campetella Racing Junior.
