Ivan Silva’s sporting life started in 1986, the year in which he first raced in junior categories. He competed in successive years, between 1990 and 1994, in the Catalan Championships in 60cc, 75cc and 80cc. Under the guidance of Dani Amatriain, who discovered his talents as a rider, he began to record various successes. In 1995 he was crowned Spanish and Catalan 75cc Champion, before turning in impressive performances in the Cagiva 125cc Cup and the Aprilia 250cc Cup. In 1997 he became the youngest ever rider to contest the Montmeló 24 Hour Endurance, finishing in 5th place. Over the last three years he has made various podium appearances in the 250 category of the Spanish Championship, and in 2001 will make the jump to the World Championship having signed for the Repsol-YPF team. Along with his Argentinean teammate Sebastián Porto, he will ride a Honda 250.
