The start of the Grand Premio d’Italia TIM saw Scott Redding charge up the field from tenth on the grid, the Brit quickly finding himself in seventh and as the leading Independent Team rider. He was comfortably ahead of Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) until a red light began to flash of the dash of his Ducati GP15, Redding rolling off and slowing down to see if the problem would resolve. Unfortunately the red light didn’t stop flashing and Redding nursed his Octo Pramac Yakhnich Ducati into the pits to avoid damaging the engine. After such a promising start, technical failure was a hard pill to swallow but Redding was pleased with the speed he had shown in the first five laps. The most frustrating aspect in his recent DNFs has been that Redding has had the speed to challenge for a good result were it not for the issues.
For the fourth time in 2016 Redding leaves a MotoGP™ World Championship round without any points, the Brit plagued with issues out of his control. Having looked so strong in testing and during various practice sessions, Redding is obviously not pleased with the results and will continue to try again at the next round. Redding currently occupies 17th in the World Championship standings, a point behind his teammate who has only participated in two races in 2016.
Scott Redding: “I have not made a mistake and from a certain point of view, I am satisfied with my performance. I also have to thank the team because the pace was very good. The problem? I saw the red light flashing, and I tried to slow down to see if the problem could be solved. But there were no signs of improvement, so I preferred to stop to avoid damaging the engine. I am disappointed because the weekend had been good even if with some ups and downs. We will try again in Barcelona.”
