Lorenzo: “With different electronics & tyres you never know"

His struggles were immense in Assen, can Jorge Lorenzo change his fortune at the Sachsenring, a classically Honda track?

It could have been a lot worse for Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) at the Dutch GP, the Spaniard unable to ride comfortably in the wet. He still left the Dutch track with some points and arrives in German trailing the championship leader, Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team), by 24 points. The German GP weekend looks set to be an uphill battle for Lorenzo, the Sachsenring a circuit that Honda have dominated and one where Lorenzo has never won. Some hope is offered by the change of rules in regards to electronics and tyres, the new regulations putting all the teams on a more or less level playing field for round nine. If ever there was a time to establish a new king of the 'Ring, it's now.

"Every race is a question mark so let‘s see if this time we can be more competitive in Germany!"

Although he has never won at the Sachsenring, Lorenzo has taken a total of five premier class podiums there. From 2009 to 2012 he secured second place with each visit, always just losing out to a Honda rider. After the German GP the mid-season summer break will begin for the MotoGP™ World Championship, heading away with a strong result can be an important mental boost for many riders.

Jorge Lorenzo: “We are facing the last round of the first part of the season and we are eager to have a great result before summer holiday. I didn‘t expect such a difficult race in Assen but ultimately we were able to get some valuable points for the championship. Now we are visiting Sachsenring, a circuit where I‘ve never won. It‘s always a challenging track for both me and the YZR-M1, but this year - with different electronics and tyres - you never know. Every race is a question mark so let‘s see if this time we can be more competitive in Germany!”
