Simeon tops crash-filled Moto2™ Warm Up

Rain stopped falling but the track remained completely wet, catching out a number of riders at the Sachsenring

Winner of the 2015 German GP, Xavier Simeon (QMMF Racing Team) was back on form as he led morning Warm Up with a 1’35.992. His win in Germany was the last time he took to the podium.

Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) suffered a crash at Turn 3 towards the end of the session. The French rider was unharmed and able to get going again, his 1’36.073 from before the crash would stand as the second fastest time of the session.

Home rider Jonas Folger (Dynavolt Intact GP) completed the top three.

Times were tight, Franco Morbidelli (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) and Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP 40) inside the top five and within half a second of Simeon.

After getting pole on Saturday, Takaaki Nakagami’s (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) Sunday got off to the worst possible start as he crashed at Turn 1. Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) also fell foul of the conditions at Turn 3.

Lorenzo Baldassarri (Forward Team) took a heavy fall at Turn 10, walking away with clear pain in his right arm. The Italian was declared unfit due to a dislocation of the right shoulder. His teammate Luca Marini (Forward Team) crashed the very next lap at Turn 3.

Turn 10 saw Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) flicked over his bike, the rear stepping out.
