Marquez lays down the marker in FP1

Championship leader heads the timesheets at the first twist of the throttle in Aragon

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) was quickest out the blocks at home venue MotorLand Aragon, with a 1:48.830 to top FP1 by almost two tenths from key title rival Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP). Marquez was the only man into the 1:48s as engines fired up back on home turf, with the rider from Cervera's speed at the track proven once again. Team Suzuki Ecstar rider Maverick Viñales was third quickest in the morning, with Ducati Team's Andrea Dovizioso ahead of reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) completing the top 5.

Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) was back in action from injury in sixth, with compatriot Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Yakhnich) just behind him in seventh. Espargaro brothers Aleix (Team Suzuki Ecstar) and Pol (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) were P8 and P9, with LCR Honda's Cal Crutchlow locking out the top ten - and proving the only non-Spaniard or Italian in that top ten in FP1.

Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS stand in superstar Nicky Hayden, riding in place of injured Jack Miller, had a solid first session as he tries to get up to speed quickly in his one off appearance - ending the session only a second off temporary teammate and 2015 Moto2™ race winner Tito Rabat.
