Lorenzo: “We can fight for the win”

Pole position in his final race for Yamaha sees the ‘Spartan’ ready to fight his last battle in blue

Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) is looking for victory on home turf at the Valencia GP, as he prepares for his last race with the factory Yamaha team after nine years. Beginning his premier class career with the team on pole at Qatar in 2008 and ending it the same way at Valencia in 2016, Lorenzo believes his pace on both tyres will give him a chance at his final goal with Yamaha: win the season finale as he prepares to wear red at Ducati in 2017.

Jorge Lorenzo (P1): “Now I can say that in my last race for Yamaha I was on pole – but tomorrow is the important thing and we’re going to try and fight for the win. But the qualifying was impressive and I could reach my top level today to do three quick laps. I felt inspired and everything I tried was worth it. I pushed more and more and didn’t crash…it was my day and I’m proud. This afternoon was perfect conditions, and here we have very good tyres - I feel much more confident and I can reach my top level as a rider. One lap on soft tyres is one thing, but thirty laps is another – probably on another tyre. But the bike is coming better and better, and Warm Up will be important tomorrow. But I think with both tyres we are competitive and we can fight for the win tomorrow.”
