Morbidelli and Marquez conquer Jerez

Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS riders duel it out on Day 2 of testing

Franco Morbidelli (EG0,0 Marc VDS) was the quickest man on track on the second day of the first Official Moto2™ test of the year, setting a 1:43.301 in the first session of the day - despite the best efforts of teammate Alex Marquez, who topped sessions two and three. Marquez’ best was a 1:42.546.

Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) followed up an impressive Day 1 with a slightly more difficult Day 2, with a crash followed by a subsequent mechanical problem. The Japanese rider got back in the mix in the final session, however – splitting the EG0,0 Marc VDS machines in P2 and ending the day third overall with a 1:42.729.

Fabio Quartararo (Pons HP 40) impressed as top rookie in P4 with a 1:42.844, ahead of Forward Racing Team’s Luca Marini, who completed the top five. Compatriot Mattia Pasini (Italtrans Racing Team) had another good day in P6, ahead of second fastest rookie Jorge Navarro (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2).  Edgar Pons (Pons HP 40) was eighth, with Danny Kent of Kiefer Racing proving the quickest Suter chassis in P9.

RW Racing GP rider Axel Pons had limited running as he felt ill, but impressively completed the top ten on Day 2. Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was P14 overall on Day 2 – just ahead of 2016 title challenger Tom Lüthi (CarXpert Interwetten).
