Pasini heads Morbidelli at MotorLand

Two Italians dominate after FP2 dries out

Mattia Pasini (Italtrans Racing Team) was the leader of the pack once again after Day 1 of the Aragon GP, heading compatriot and Championship leader Franco Morbidelli (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) by almost two tenths. Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) completed the top three, with conditions beginning wet for FP1 and then drying in the afternoon for the intermediate class’ second session of the day.

Behind the trio at the top, Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) impressed with fourth as laptimes dipped into the 1:54s, with the German heading Italian Simone Corsi (Speed Up Racing) after the veteran jumped to fifth as the chequered flag came out. Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was the man to just lose out, ending Friday in sixth.

Jorge Navarro (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) took seventh and top rookie honours despite a late incident in FP2 as he lost the front at Turn 12, heading FP1’s fastest Tom Lüthi (CarXpert Interwetten) as the title challenger was eighth fastest. The top 10 was completed by Tech 3 Racing’s Xavi Vierge in ninth and Pons HP40 rider Fabio Quartararo in P10 in another solid showing of rookie pace for the Frenchman.

Marcel Schrötter (Dynavolt Intact GP) held P11 at the close of Day 1 as he comes back from injury, just 0.044 seconds ahead of Misano GP winner Dominique Aegerter (Kiefer Racing) in P12 – making it five different chassis in the top twelve. Stefano Manzi (Sky Racing Team VR46) improved on his FP1 position to take P13, followed by rookie Augusto Fernandez (Speed up Racing) in fourteenth and Iker Lecuona (Garage Plus Interwetten) in fifteenth.

Moto2™ qualify from 15:05 (GMT +2).
