Alex Marquez masters Motegi in the wet

FP1 sees the rider from Cervera top as he returns to the track where he's won twice

Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) headed the Moto2™ timesheets in FP1 at Motegi, coming back from injury and ahead by four tenths in the rain and difficult wet track conditions. Tom Lüthi (CarXpert Interwetten) was second quickest as he hunts down the Championship leader Franco Morbidelli (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), who was fifth, with Hafizh Syahrin (Petronas Raceline Malaysia) and Francesco Bagnaia (Sky Racing Team VR46) splitting the two title contenders.

There were a number of crashes and moments throughout as the rain kept falling, with Syahrin the highest-placed man to fall.
